Observations and experiments in the near-Earth plasma are discussed. They can clarify the dynamics of the sapce environment and widen our understanding of matter. They can form a basis interpretating remote observations of astrophysical objects, thereby helping to reconstruct events that led to the evolution of our solar system. They can provide know-how required for adapting space-based technology to the plasma environment.
