An automatic program for high resolution background analysis and object detection; calibrating stellar magnitudes by means of sub-beam prism photographic plates; surface brightness and extinction in the RCW 38 area and the Taurus clouds; distances and extinction maps of high latitude cirrus dust clouds; comparison of optical and infrared observations of cirrus dust clouds; and a warm dust cloud associated with alpha Cam are discussed.
