The evolution of thick accretion tori around black holes was investigated. Using three-dimensional computer models, it is shown that isentropic, pressure supported tori with constant specific angular momentum (Omega = r- 2) are unstable. Nonaxisymmetric instabilities grow and lead to the redistribution of specific angular momentum l on a short, dynamical timescale from the initial l = const to l = rqc, where qc = 0.25. Significance of these results for the models of active galactic nuclei and other jet-producing astrophysical sources is discussed.
