The formation of the fine structure of the emission filaments in the Cygnus Loop by the development of an acoustic mode of thermal instability is considered. Numerical solution of the nonlinear problem has shown that the growth of small adiabatic perturbations can lead to the formation of shock waves if the de-excitation is accompanied by compression of the gas. Such conditions are realized behind the front of a supernova blast wave propagating through inhomogeneous interstellar gas.
