The determination of abundances of C, N, O in planetary nebulae is briefly discussed. For 'normal' planetaries the ratio C/O appears in average not far from the solar value. The charge exchange reactions of heavy elements with hydrogen are shown to affect in particular the current assumption N/O equals N(plus)/O(plus), usually employed to deduce the nitrogen abundance. Optically thin cases are different, in this respect, from the optically thick ones.
