Black Hole Binaries, Active Galactic Nuclei
Scientific paper
Supermassive black hole binaries may exist in active galaxies such as radio galaxies. Using a technique of phase-referencing VLBI, we detected a systematic elliptical motion of the radio core during our imaging monitoring of the radio galaxy 3C66B. This result strongly indicates the orbital motion of a supermassive black hole binary. We expect that new radio interferometry facilities such as VERA, VSOP-2, and ALMA will begin a new era in study of supermassive black hole binaries.
