The assumption of a recent (3.5-10 thousand years ago) explosion of the electrolysis products of Titan's ices suggests a common explanation for many peculiar features of Saturn's system. In particular, the high excess luminosity of Saturn is due, possibly, to its having accreted a part of the material lost by Titan. The accretion of this material from Saturn's rings is continuing at present. The crucial experiment to support the possibility of a recent explosion of Titan's ice would be detection of excess heat flux. At the present time it could constitute 1.5-15% of the solar radiation flux absorbed by this satellite.
