The region of Cep A was observed for a period of 12 h with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope at a wavelength of 21 cm in December 1979. The map of the area shows the presence of two sources with some diffuse background emission. The westerly source has optical nebulosity associated with it, has a star at its peak contour level, and appears to be an H II region on the near side of the cloud. It also encompasses the suspected H-H object GGD37. OH and H2O maser sources are situated near the center of the easterly source. Analysis of the observations suggests that the easterly source is a region of recent star formation, while the westerly component appears to be older and to be produced by one star.
