The absolute magnitudes of stars on the red giant branch (G-K-M) have been determined using both trigonometric and statistical parallaxes, from a sample of 212 stars classified in the Revised MK System (Keenan and Pitts, 1980). The results of both methods are summarized in a table. A good agreement is found and the difference between trigonometric and statistical parallaxes is found not to be greater than + or - 0.002. The computed absolute magnitudes and space motions are tabulated.
