The standard halo model of large-scale structure has proven to be quite successful. In our alternative, "subhalo" model, the number of galaxies inhabiting each halo is exactly one. With a minimal set of inputs, simple explanations emerge for the bias between galaxies and matter, as well as a simple estimate for the cross-correlation coefficient between them. This model might also allow halo density profiles, and perhaps even the dark matter power spectrum, to be measured from the galaxy-galaxy and galaxy-mass power spectra.
