This discussion session started off with a quick review of some key results regarding Lyα emitters (LAEs) at low redshift: some illustrative images were shown, some intriguing results highlighted, and some comparison with high redshift LAEs made. Then followed an open discussion for about 1 h which touched upon questions such as: how similar are low- and high-z objects, Lyα escape fractions, what observations are needed to go from interesting to understandable results on low-z objects, how do we understand the complexity of Lyα in local galaxies and what does it imply for high-z objects?
