We analyze the Milky Way kinematics using a sample of 8 million stars with proper motion measurements and 100,000 stars with radial velocity measurements. Proper motions were obtained by comparing SDSS and POSS positions and radial velocities were derived from the SDSS spectroscopic survey. These predominantly main sequence stars sample a distance range from 100 pc to 15 kpc, and allow a detailed and robust determination of the distribution of the three velocity components as a function of three spatial coordinates. We quantify these distributions, compare them to previous work, and discuss their implications for the formation of the Milky Way.
