Normal (C 14 -C 36 ) and isoprenoid (C 14 -C 20 ) saturated alkanes were
isolated from a shale from Nebi Musa, near Jericho. Relative proportions
of the C 16 , C 18 , and C 19 isoprenoids with respect to the C 17
isoprenoid confirm diagenetic schemes in which the compounds could be
derived from phytol.
