The influence of line-mixing on the emission by Mars’ atmosphere is studied using a model based on the energy corrected sudden approximation. Comparisons between the forward calculations of brightness temperatures and the values measured by the short-wavelength spectrometer of the infrared space observatory are presented. These indicate that line-mixing effects, although not negligible—particularly near Q branches—are quite small and fall within the uncertainty range due to noise, model and measurements errors.
