Theoretical models and numerical simulations of SN explosions caused by collapse to a neutron star are discussed in an analytical review. The focus is on the hot-bubble model developed by Wilson and Mayle (1984) and the fact that, despite the strength of the shock wave, a significant proportion of the ejected matter falls back onto the neutron star over the course of about 30 min, ultimately leading to a black hole. Particular attention is given to mixing behind the shock, turbulent mixing processes, the acceleration of the contact surface, and the relationship between entropy and mixing.
