Comet 1986 Iii Halley, Comets: Spectra

Scientific paper

The slit spectra of comet P/Halley have been obtained in November and December 1985 at Terskol High Mountain Observational Station of the Main Astronomical Observatory of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. The distributions of energy in the spectra, surface brightnesses in molecular bands, and column densities have been obtained. Time variations are considered for two homogeneous series of the spectra. It is shown that in the outburst observed on November 21 both, continuum and molecular emission were enhanced. A discrepancy is noticed between the observed ratios of the Swan band intensities and those predicted by the hypothesis of resonance fluorescence.
