Zwicky's magnitudes mZw are compared with the BT magnitudes given by Sandage and Tammann in the Revised Shapley-Ames Catalogue of Bright Galaxies. The slope of the well known linear correlation between the correction ΔB = (BT-mZw) and the Zwicky surface brightness, is found to depend on declination and strongly on morphological type. On the contrary, the dependence of ΔB on the volume number of the Zwicky catalogue is explained as due to the above mentioned dependence on declination. Errors of the Zwicky magnitudes corrected for these effects are expected to be of about 0m.24, independently of the morphological type.
