An analysis is conducted of the H I content of about 230 spiral and irregular members of Geller and Huchra's (1983) galaxy groups, in order to shed light on the possible role of the environment on the H I content of noncluster galaxies. Their H I content is noted to depend neither on distance from a respective group center nor on the ratio between this distance and the mean pairwise separation of all group members. No variation of H I properties as a function of group compactness is found, although the overall galaxy density-galaxy morphology relation in groups appears to be largely consistent with the general, local density-morphology relation, in which the most compact groups contain a smaller fraction of spirals. General conditions for ram pressure and turbulent viscous stripping fix an upper limit of about 0.0001 particles/cu cm for the average number density of the intragroup medium.
