The observational data on meteor heights from the Budrio meteor radar are analyzed in order to determine whether the differences between night and daytime atmospheric conditions have any effect on meteor height distribution. Variations of mean echo heights and geomagnetic K(p) index, seasonal variation of mean heights, the relation between mean echo heights, and the elevation angle of the apex of the earth's motion, and the variation of mean echo heights with respect to sunrise at 90 km are obtained. Some variation in the mean heights, during the observed time interval of about 12 hr with respect to local sunrise is observed, with a minimum appearing within one hour after sunrise, followed by an increase of about 2 km in approximately 4-5 hr after sunrise. An explanation of this phenomenon in terms of a diurnal upper atmospheric density variation is offered.
