Reticon spectra of two barium stars have been analyzed. HD 83548, a low-luminosity barium star with a very small mass, shows mild enhancements of the s-process elements relative to iron, in particular of yttrium and barium. C/O is enlarged with respect to normal K-giants. In the high-luminosity barium star HD 65699, barium is enhanced by a factor of four, but, other s-process elements are normal. The CNO abundances, compared to the iron group elements, are similar to those for typical K-giants, but, exhibit a slight enhancement of the C/O ratio. Both stars possess comparatively large macroturbulent velocities and high chromospheric activity. The results are discussed in terms of the evolutionary stage of barium stars. For the low mass stars the helium flash is a likely scenario for the synthesis of the s-process elements while for the more massive stars a binary star model seems unavoidable.
