The surface densities of quasars found by Savage and co-workers are consistent with those of other workers in the field to within a factor of two. Recent photoelectric photometry has confirmed the earlier Savage and Bolton magnitude scale but the numbers of quasars found by them may have been low as a result of the relatively poor quality plates then available.
