For a few well-observed coronal mass ejections whose surface source regions were identified current helicity distribution and evolution are calculated based on the time sequence of observed vector magnetograms. An analysis is made with the emphasis on whether or not there are particular patterns of helicity distribution and evolution which would characterize the pre-CME status and the CME initiation. Preliminary results are reported in this discussion. It is argued that the helicity input in localized active regions may not be enough to account for the magnetic helicity in CMEs but may play an active role in driving the eruption.
