The delay time of the rapidly varying radio emission of extragalactic objects depends almost linearly on wavelength. This behavior accords with a model in which clouds of relativistic electrons are injected into a regularly expanding magnetic field. In addition to the fast component there is a slowly varying component with markedly different parameters; in particular, the time delay behaves quite differently.
