Simultaneous spectroscopic and photometric observations of the T Tauri-type star BM And are presented. These observations indicate that over the observed range in brightness of Delta-B = 0.82 m, no change in the spectrum correlated with the brightness of the star occurs. Consequently, the light variations appear to result from variable extinction in the line of sight. The rapidity of these variations indicates that absorbing material occurs quite close to the star so that BM And appears likely to be an object surrounded by protoplanetary material. The relationship between the amplitude of the light variation in the B and V filter bands indicates that the ratio of total to selective absorption of the material is R = 12.5, indicating that it contains a much larger proportion of relatively large grains than does the material normally found in interstellar space.
