For a large number of variable stars MONS BST and FST will provide time series with a sensitivity in amplitude spectra orders of magnitude better than in data available until now. The very promising rewards of studying selected binary systems and classical high-amplitude variable stars with safe mode identification is emphasized. Several groups of binaries and of pulsation variables in the Cepheid instability strip as well as a few individual objects are discussed. Lists of variables of particular astrophysical importance as MONS targets are given.
