Observations in the period Mar. 10-13, 1986, have resulted in the first successful detection of SiO maser emission from OH/IR stars near the Galactic Center. From a sample of 33 OH/IR stars found using the VLA, both maser emission lines were detected in three sources (OH359.68-0.02, OH359.80-0.09, and OH359.97-0.12). The radial velocity of the SiO lines from OH359.68-0.02 is about -149 km/s. This makes the association with an object close to the Galactic Center very likely. The SiO luminosity of this star is about 10 to the 44 photons per second. The possibility cannot be excluded, however, that one of the other two stars is a foreground object. The main conclusion is that there is a real possibility of detecting SiO lines in most OH/IR stars at the Galactic Center.
