The authors present and discuss broad-band photometry of the active galaxy PKS 0521-36, of its nucleus and of its optical jet. Decompositions of the images into three parts, namely the stellar component, the nucleus and the jet, are made in five different spectral bands. The results on the galaxy and on the nucleus are quite in agreement with previously reported observations. The radiation of the jet is found to be compatible with a power law spectrum with a spectral index α ≅ -1.8 and a high-energy cut-off frequency located around 5.8×1014Hz. It could be a new case of optical synchrotron jet of the type of the jet seen in M87. Tentative explanations are proposed to give account for the observed spectral energy distribution of the jet.
