Photometric observations (VBLUW system) of 26 RR Lyrae stars in Microscopium (l ∼ 0°, b ∼ -39°) down to VJ = 16m, in the direction in which Hoffmeister (1962) suspected the_presence of an intergalactic dust cloud, are presented. The average interstellar reddening for the 26 RR Lyrae stars E(B-V)J = 0.10 mag. If the cloud exists, it should lie at a distance > 6 kpc and a z distance > 4 kpc.
