Hydrogen and helium recombination line observations of the galactic center H II region Sgr B2 give an apparent He abundance ranging from less than approximately 0.02 to 0.085 plus or minus 0.015. The observations are explained in the framework of a source model with 'normal' He abundance and where the line transfer is perturbed by collisional broadening. A core-halo model for Sgr B2 gives a reasonable fit to all available single dish observations of line and continuum fluxes.
