Scientific paper

The paper reports the experimental investigation of a SIS (superconductor-insulator-superconductor) detector operating in the classical mixing mode, whose performance is not worse than that of quantum SIS detectors or masers. Low noise temperature was achieved by optimizing the main units of the device: the input-signal section, the mixer, and the IF amplifier. The sensitivity and dynamic range attained are suitable for radio-astronomical applications.
