Models of compact sources in which cold particles are continuously reaccelerated at relativistic energies are investigated. These models yield the break at few MeV that is required to explain the slope of the gamma-ray background. At X-ray energies the predicted spectra are flatter than that observed for a typical active galactic nuclei (AGN). The problem of the accumulation of cold particles inside a compact source is examined and it is concluded that reacceleration is not an adequate solution.
