The solution of the Maxwell equations in the background Kerr geometry is required in determining the nature of the electromagnetic perturbations of the Kerr black hole. The vector potential of a vacuum Maxwell field in Kerr geometry is specified in terms of Teulkolsy's radial and angular functions. The method developed in this paper consists in writing out the expressions for two scalars explicitly in terms of potentials and observing that the resulting equations can be integrated by elementary methods. It is possible to write down simple expressions for the different components of the potential in a general gauge.
