The present state of the observational data bearing on the problem of lunar abundances is reviewed, the resulting constraints on these abundances are discussed, and a revised table for the whole-moon abundances for 35 elements and six oxides is given. Three main aspects of the problem of lunar abundances are (1) highland crustal values for Th, U, and K, (2) mare basalt compositions, and (3) trace-element abundances. If the abundances for the whole moon as derived in this paper are indicative of the whole moon, then major melting and differentiation has occurred of the type envisaged by the Taylor-Jakes model
