The study of ionized regions has, over the last few years, received powerful impetus from extensive and detailed observational data. Theorists have been forced to reexamine the physical basis of models which have for years appeared to provide an adequate description of many phenomena. In the spirit of this reexamination, we discuss three topics. Firstly recent work on recombination fronts with relevance to the structures of ultracompact HII regions and planetary nebula will be discussed. Interestingly, such fronts have received far less attention in the literature than their inverse counterparts i.e. ionization fronts and this is partly due to the fact that their relevance to astrophysical problems has been less obvious. Secondly, we describe recent calculations on the possible formation of extended tail-like structures by the photoionization of dense globules. Finally, we comment on the possible formation of photoionized fast moving clouds in the nuclear regions of Seyfert Galaxies by the interaction of fast stellar winds from Wolf-Rayet stars with their environment.
