Areas of gamma-NiFe analogous to the zonal tenite of chondrites in composition and structure have been produced artificially. The monomineral fraction of a pentlandite was roasted in a hydrogen stream for 1 to 2 hours at 800 and 1000 C and subsequently subjected to rapid cooling in a stream of cold argon. Formation of nickel-enriched margins was found to occur during heating rather than cooling.
