The paper presents the infrared spectrum between 1 micron and 1 mm of the embedded infrared source AFGL 961, associated with the Rosette molecular cloud. Complementing previous data, the IRAS-LRS data provides evidence for a broad absorption band centered at 13.6 microns. After careful analysis and comparison with laboratory data, the feature is attributed to the libration mode of amorphous water in interstellar ices. The region from 5 to 10 microns is dominated by deep absorption bands. It is proposed that near about 7 microns carbonates substantially contribute to the observed absorption.
