By means of a statistical analysis of observed parameters of molecular clouds several authors found the 'law' n-bar = about 1/R. It is shown here that the interpretation of this relation is by no means straightforward. On one side it may be the result of a selection effect, on the other side it may reflect the internal structure of the individual clouds rather than their distribution over physical parameters.
