High-resolution (R = 20,000) echelle spectrograms are used to study the emission line profiles of the two moderate-emission T Tau stars CV Cha and GQ Lup. Part of the observed line profiles differ systematically from those found in the spectra of the stronger-emission T Tau stars described in the literature. However, all the profiles appear to be consistent with the assumption that the observed differences simply result from the lower optical thickness of the less massive gaseous envelopes of the lower-emission T Tau stars. For the optically thin lines similar profiles are found in the moderate and strong emission stars. This suggests that the emitting gas has the same basic geometric distribution and velocity field in all T Tau star systems.
