M65 is a spiral galaxy in Leo, part of the Leo triplet which consists of M65, M66 and NGC 3628. Its distance has variously been determined as 6.7 Mpc (de Vaucouleurs 1975) and 23.4 Mpc (Sandage and Tamman 1975) but the lower value is generally considered more likely since it seems more consistent with H I studies.
