M33 is a spiral galaxy in Triangulum, an apparent neighbor to and possibly distant companion of M31. It is of type Scd, i.e. a late (advanced in its evolution) spiral without a bar or a central black hole, and small compared with the Milky Way and M31 (as all galaxies in the Local Group are small compared with these).
