The stability of a self-gravitating ring about a central body is studied
with the purpose of deriving a bound on the mass of the ring. The bound
is valid for all vibration modes of the system in three-dimensional
space, is less restrictive than previously found bounds, and in some
cases is the best possible bound for linear stability.
