The Hubble parameter, H_0, specifies the expansion rate of the universe, as well as its size and its age. The long-running controversy over the value of this key cosmological parameter appears to be resolving, with both the ``long" and ``short" scales for the size of the universe being accommodated by the latest determinations of H0 (at approximately 70 ± 10, including systematic errors) using the Hubble Space Telescope. Recent HIPPARCOS measurements of absolute distances for calibration stars have also resulted in revised ages for the oldest stars (in globular clusters) in the Galaxy. These new determinations may remove the ``age problem" whereby the age of the oldest stars appeared possibly older than the universe. Prospects are now excellent to measure the deceleration parameter, q_0, as well as constraints on a possible cosmological constant, Λ.
