This paper presents spectra for 17 objects, previously tentatively classified as planetary nebulae, which were obtained with the 1.52-m telescope of the ESO during the time period 1984-1989. Of these, four are classified in the ESO/Uppsala Survey of the ESO (B) atlas as probable planetary nebulae, eleven are classified as galaxies or probable galaxies, and two are not listed. It is shown that all of these objects are emission line galaxies in which the gas is ionized by hot stars, except for ESO 428-G14, a Seyfert 2 galaxy, and ESO 512-G20, a probable Seyfert 1 galaxy.
