Westerbork observations are presented of the SW cloud region of the M81 group. The observations have revealed (1) a filament of length >37 kpc, (2) a compact H I cloud with interesting kinematic properties, and (3) a southern extension to the disc of M81. It appears most likely that the H I filament is tidal debris although it is unclear which of the three companion galaxies (if not all) is responsible for its formation. The most surprising result is the discovery of a compact H I cloud, rotating in the opposite sense from the H I filament. This cloud could be a dwarf galaxy which existed before the encounters or formed as a result of them. Alternatively, the cloud could be part of scattered tidal debris originating from NGC 2976, the dwarf companion to the south of M81.
