It is shown that the mean intensity of the longitudinal magnetic-field component is equal to 0.00042 T while that of the transverse component is 0.0075 T in the solar polar regions. The measurements were carried out with a spatial resolution of 4 x 2 arcsec. The difference is explained by the fact that the longitudinal component signal is formed by averaging the intensity while the tranverse component is formed by averaging the square of the intensity of the magnetic field of the fine structure elements over the magnetograph aperture.
