Submillimeter CO (J = 4-3) spectra of the central positions of the molecular clouds and star forming regions OMC 1, NGC 2068, NGC 2071, and NGC 2264 are presented and compared with other CO line observations. In OMC 1 the extended spike feature and the broad pedestal of the plateau source which is spatially small and strongly beam diluted in the in the line are observed. The (4-3) plateau feature is optically thick. The line in NGC 2068 is very intense and surprisingly narrow, suggesting a low velocity dispersion within the cloud. In NGC 2071, a line of complex shape which compares well with the lower CO lines is observed. In the northern cloud of NGC 2264, in which few observations have been made, a bright line with a central self-absorption dip is found.
