The possibilities for filament support in a binary are investigated. A description in terms of currents, the sources of the magnetic field is employed. Several advantages of this method are discussed. An extended discussion is presented on the stability of a filament in a RS Canum Venaticorum system. Various locations for stable filament configurations are identified, and analytical expressions for the amount of stored energy are presented. It is shown that sufficient energy can be stored to explain the largest flares in RS CVn and Algol systems.
