Globular Clusters, Stellar Motions, Abundance, Centaurus Constellation
Scientific paper
The authors propose that the globular cluster ω Centauri is the product of the merging of two smaller globulars. As evidence they cite: (1) the uniquely large spread in the [Fe/H] abundance, (2) the strong flattening, (3) the large mass. On the basis of this hypothesis, it is predicted that the stars in ω Centauri should show a correlation between their heavy-element abundance and their kinematics.
