The presence of strong magnetic fields (approximately 10 to 100 million gauss) in the central part of the accretion disk in an X-ray binary system will diminish the percentage linear polarization and significantly alter the polarization spectrum as compared with the standard model without a magnetic field. In principle, the polarization spectrum will also depend on the field geometry. Plasmoids in the central disk zone could be responsible for quasi-periodic fluctuations in circular polarization.
