Medium-dispersion spectrograms of HZ Her have been measured for radial velocities and equivalent widths of H-gamma, H-delta, Ca II K, He I lines, He II 4686-A emission, and C III-N III 4640-A emission. Adopting a model for the temperature distribution across the surface of HZ Her, it is found that the derived mass ratio depends strongly on the spectral resolution because of asymmetry in the line profiles. A value of 1.5 solar masses (i = 90 deg) for the mass of Her X-1 is consistent with the data. The radial-velocity curve for the emission complex at 4640-A and He II at 4686-A appears to be roughly in phase with the absorption lines.
